Un orasel idilic se pregateste de Craciun. Adolescentul Billy primeste de la tatal sau un cadou special, un mogwai, o creatura mica si paroasa, care nu trebuie expus la lumina puternica, udat si mai ales hranit dupa miezul noptii. Cand instructiunile nu sunt urmate, Gizmo (cum se numeste straniul animal) se inmulteste, iar numeroasa progenitura incepe sa devasteze orasul si sa ucida oamenii cu o ferocitate iesita din comun. Gremlinii se comporta ca niste predatori; printre cele mai 'tari' scene se numara dezastrul din cinematograful unde rula filmul Alba ca Zapada si cei sapte pitici sau secventa cu cuptorul cu microunde...
